what is counselling for musicians?

Counselling For Musicians is dedicated therapeutic counselling for musicians and everyone within the music industry.

Sessions take place at my practices in Manchester. I also work with clients backstage at gigs, studios, rehearsal rooms and even travel on tour. Anywhere that is safe and convenient for both of us is ideal.

I offer completely confidential person -centred counselling one on one or as a band. Why not try group counselling before you make any difficult decisions as a band? It could make a massive difference to your future.

You talk, I listen, I reflect back what you've shared and we explore your feelings, thoughts and experiences together.

I've been a singer, songwriter and performer for over 17 years. I've worked on my own music, with others as part of a band, and as a session singer. I've experienced amazing successes, colossal failures and everything in between! After taking great comfort with my own counsellor, I trained for four years to become a counsellor myself. I wanted to help anyone who was vulnerable and suffering with their mental health.

I have experience working in the NHS and within my own private practice, Counselling For Musicians. I am a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor and BACP registered.

Most musicians are struggling to earn a living, constantly having to accept rejection from various companies and individuals whilst trying to stay positive and keep going. They are putting their heart and souls into their music and can't imagine a life without it. It's rewarding and therapeutic in itself, or people wouldn't want to be musicians. But it is hard, oh yeah.

It's no secret that there's a massive void where mental health services for musicians should be. Rising awareness of anxiety and depression within the music industry, means that high profile artists are less afraid to admit to their issues, no longer shying away from stigma. Some musicians are having to cancel gigs and even tours because they can't cope. There's access to many studies and statistics surrounding musicians and a lack of counselling provision. Musicians we love have ended their own lives due to sometimes years of depression.

Some music management companies and labels are starting to accept that their artists need help in the form of counselling, this is a real positive step forward.

I'm not saying that counselling is a cure. It's a journey, it sometimes gets worse before it gets better, but it is worth it. I'm here to listen, I'm here to help, you don't have to go through it alone.
